A New Kind of Resolution

So it’s February and already you don’t feel as if you’re living up to the reading resolutions that you set for yourself only weeks ago, right? I know the feeling. Coming off of  the holidays it can be difficult getting into a new and solid reading routine, yet every year we tell ourselves that we are going to read 20 or 30 books and every year we are completely overwhelmed by March and just ready for colorful eggs and chocolate bunny rabbits.

So why do we keep torturing ourselves? Because it’s worth it, that’s why. There are a million good books out there that need to be read, but when you imprison yourself in a Rubik’s Cube of rules, regulations and resolutions, reading becomes more of a chore than a pleasure

As an alternative, try a less stringent approach to your reading goals. Make a resolution that not only gets those books read but offers you the relaxation that you deserve after the busiest time of the year. Make a resolution to treat yourself to dinner or coffee and a book once a week (lunch works too). Make is a point to have at least one leisurely sit down per week with the company of only a book that you have been meaning to read. By adding some much needed rest and relaxation to your resolution, you turn it into a complete luxury and something you will be looking forward to each and every week.

Happy reading,
